Palavra — A Multilingual Corpus of Historical Dictionaries
A four-language research corpus that turns historical Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English dictionaries into a dataset for linguistic and computational analysis.
Why it surfacedPalavra treats dictionaries as records of conceptual change: layers of meaning that persist, shift, or disappear. The project, being built at Brazil’s Federal University of Santa Catarina, already lists substantial historical sources—including 69,420 Spanish entries and 35,767 Portuguese entries—and plans to open its search interface to the public.
