Kaatru is an open air-quality monitoring network for India, built around low-cost sensors hosted by volunteers, schools, apartments, and community organizations.

Why it surfaced

Its argument is concrete: a single city-wide AQI can miss pollution differences between neighbouring streets, school gates, and industrial zones. Kaatru plans to publish live readings, historical data, and an open API; for now, its first sensor node is being built and tested in Chennai.
