Why it surfaced

BLACKOUT explains why drawing a black box over PDF text is not real redaction, then burns the redactions into flattened page images so the underlying text cannot be recovered from the exported file. The privacy promise is unusually concrete: no PDF contents, page images, or extracted text reach its servers, while the site clearly states the trade-off that exported pages are no longer text-selectable.
