Don Fraim hand-carves wood ducks, fish, and game birds from basswood and black walnut in Tremont, Illinois.

Why it surfaced

This is a remarkably specific artisan practice: Fraim says he started carving in seventh grade and has spent sixty years at the bench. There are no molds or production runs, and even the available-pieces page admits that everything is currently spoken for—the surest route in is a commission.
