Why it surfaced

The project is unusually concrete: 1,500 L/s of planned capacity, a secured coastal site, a maritime concession in process, and environmental approval targeted for 2029. Its central proposition is also notable—one shared plant serving multiple clients instead of a series of single-user facilities in Chile’s drought-stricken Tarapacá region.

Aguas Patillo proposes a modular seawater desalination plant at Bahía de Patillos, supplying industrial and potable-grade water to mines, cities, and new industries in northern Chile.
