Y-DRT: High-Schoolers Learning to Move in a Disaster
Y-DRT is a Shizuoka-based youth disaster-response group that teaches high-school students first aid, disaster basics, volunteer coordination, and community preparedness.
Why it surfaced
The group turns a direct question—whether people will freeze or be able to act—into a three-part program of emergency learning, disaster-volunteer training, and local outreach. Its founding members were inspired by a study tour to Iwate and are trying to carry the lessons of the 2011 earthquake into the next generation.
