Why it surfaced
IUPWATCH turns Sentinel-2 optical imagery and Sentinel-1 radar into alerts for land clearing, muddy water, persistent vessels, and suspected unlicensed mining. Its thresholds are unusually concrete: vessels lingering for more than six or 24 hours receive different warnings, while suspected PETI findings arrive with coordinates and image evidence.
