A DNV-approved emergency telegraph for sending engine-room commands between a ship’s bridge and machinery space.

Landing page captured for the 2026-08-26 issue.

Field notes

The MTS-5-V3 uses a multi-wire bus to connect bridge and engine-room stations, with rotary switches providing local address and operating-mode configuration instead of a programming device. The listed architecture supports one master and up to three slaves, or a sub-master with two additional slaves, plus as many as four extra displays per line. Commands can be forwarded to a Voyage Data Recorder, and each device provides two potential-free relay outputs for external alarms or fault reporting.
