Planetnik Wants to Put Storm Sensors on Balconies
A Polish community project developing StormNode devices for local storm detection, weather telemetry, photography, and short-term neighborhood warnings.
Field notes
Planetnik describes a sensor network built from local StormNode units rather than relying only on conventional forecasts. Each proposed node combines lightning detection with environmental telemetry, photographs, and positioning data; synchronized clusters are intended to help correlate events and estimate local storm activity. The pilot is recruiting hosts at balconies, terraces, allotments, schools, businesses, and other open sites. The project is still described as a privately funded incubation effort, with its map, API, and alerting layer presented as work in progress.
