A browser-based tool that analyzes an MP3, WAV, M4A, or AIFF file and returns its chord progression, key, and BPM.

Landing page captured for the 2026-08-27 issue.

Field notes

EarChord processes audio locally in a Web Worker rather than sending files to a server. Its documented pipeline folds frequencies between 55 Hz and 2 kHz into twelve pitch classes, compares frames against twenty-four major and minor triad templates, and removes changes shorter than roughly one-third of a second. The page says a 32-second track takes about a tenth of a second to analyze, while noting that distorted guitar and suspended chords can be difficult cases.
