Who Pays — The Tariff Cost
An interactive investigation of what U.S. tariffs cost importers, households, exporters, and individual states.
Field notes
The project separates customs duty that was actually collected from a broader model of added household costs across imported goods. Its interface lets readers select a state and an optional industry, while separate sections trace aluminum pricing, Canada’s counter-tariff product categories, and a hypothetical energy response. The household figure is explicitly modelled rather than measured, because the page says the pass-through from company costs to retail prices cannot be observed directly.
