Caret, the browser spellchecker that keeps your writing local
A free Edge and Chrome extension that underlines spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and clarity issues in ordinary text boxes.
Field notes
Caret processes its dictionary, grammar rules, and suggestions in the browser rather than sending ordinary writing to a server. The page specifies a 376,000-word dictionary, 4,000 known typos, four colored mistake categories, and a list view with a Fix all action for unambiguous corrections. Settings can disable categories, add personal words, silence particular sites, and choose straight or wavy underlines. An optional Anthropic check requires the user’s own API key and a manual keyboard shortcut.
