NYC Comparator Lab
An interactive civic-data lab tests claims about New York City against selectable peer cities across crime, jobs, housing, transit, and air travel.
Field notes
The lab organizes monthly city-level series into a comparative framework rather than presenting a single before-and-after claim. Its homicide view covers January 2018 through June 2026, offers 6-, 12-, and 24-month pretrend windows, and reports both conventional and pretrend-adjusted estimates. The placebo explorer keeps the New York event date fixed while allowing another city to become the focal case, making the comparison logic visible rather than leaving it buried in a conclusion.
