The project uses the federal NCES F-33 survey to organize district finances across FY2005–FY2024, separating operating districts from systems whose spending cannot be compared cleanly with enrolled students. Its comparisons include current operating budgets, spending per student, and long-term enrollment changes, while the grading system remains in rollout. The homepage also sets a 2,500-student threshold for its enrollment lists, avoiding dramatic percentage swings from very small base-year populations.
