Бабаня, the Television That Talks Back
A Russian digital character project about Baba Anya, a village woman who emerges from an internet-connected television with opinions, stories, and a distinctly unhelpful attitude.
Field notes
Бабаня’s interaction model is operator-mediated: the operator defines who is present, supplies context, and sets prohibited topics while speech recognition, a language model, voice synthesis, and animation produce the character’s replies. The page says the character remembers conversational hooks only within the current session and does not use camera-based identification. Public visitors can hear recorded scenes, while the live conversational prototype remains limited to closed testing.
