The project starts from a practical failure: imported potato onion bulbs could not be brought into the UK, and available seed produced small, poorly splitting plants unsuited to the local garden. The site turns that problem into a breeding program, tracking cohorts and named lines while publishing a methodology and annual reports. Its target plant would produce a harvestable clump from a planted bulb and allow the cycle to continue through repeated replanting.
