Will It Shade Maps the Sun Across Your Garden
A free 3D planner lets gardeners trace buildings, fences, and trees to see how much direct sunlight reaches a property throughout the day and year.
Field notes
The workflow combines an address lookup with manual site modelling: users trace roofs and neighbouring structures, draw fence lines, drop in trees, and set each object’s height. The page describes aerial imagery at roughly 12–30 centimetres per pixel and uses separate day and year sliders, including a solstice-to-solstice range. Its planting guidance distinguishes direct sun from bright open shade and notes that winter shadows can extend roughly three times farther.
