Lawyers as Builders
A movement helping lawyers and law students turn recurring legal problems into free, open-source tools.
Field notes
The project uses an inside-out design model: the person closest to a legal problem defines the task, reduces it to workable steps, and helps build the tool. Its cited starting point is work with detained individuals, including a child-support-guideline example that converts a statutory formula into a computable answer. The homepage also proposes an experiential law-school course in which students would build one free tool from one real problem, though it says those conversations are still underway.
