Saint Lucia, 1815
An interactive map and searchable transcription of Saint Lucia's 1815 plantation slave registers, covering 12,726 people across 394 plantations.
Field notes
The map organizes a complete transcription of plantation returns across thirteen historical quarters, including Dauphin and Praslin, which no longer appear as modern quarters. Each plantation marker encodes registered population through size and main crop through colour, while solid and dashed rings distinguish surviving place-name locations from approximate placements. Example records preserve relationships and circumstances visible in the register, including a nine-child household and an entry describing Michel Messenger as having been a runaway for seven years.
