The Instituto Forestal Agropecuario de Darién combines a conventional secondary curriculum with fitotecnia, zootecnia, agriculture, and agroforestry, using a boarding model for students from dispersed rural communities. The homepage reports that 40% of class time takes place in the field and that project units produce food or goods for the school and local sale. It also describes a contribution system in which families may provide plátano, seeds, or chickens when money is unavailable.
