Riv, the notch-dwelling AI teacher
Riv is a macOS assistant that watches the active screen while you ask a question, then points to controls or draws explanations without clicking for you.
Field notes
Riv is summoned with Control-Space and examines only the display being used while the user is asking, rather than maintaining background capture. Its visual explanations are deliberately constrained to three drawing primitives—a path, an ellipse, and a label—while interface guidance consists of a ring and a short line beside the relevant control. The page says users supply their own OpenAI or Anthropic key, stored in the login keychain, and that the beta is free.
