Les Figurants: Marseille’s Unplanned Encounters
A Marseille art project hides individually painted resin characters in 300-metre map zones for strangers to discover.
Field notes
The project uses uncertainty as its central mechanism: a map reveals only a 300-metre search zone, while the centre is randomly offset to prevent it from functioning as a hidden address. A finder identifies the resin piece by the number engraved under its foot and submits a photograph, after which the site can display the exact location. The homepage currently records zero figurines placed and zero found, and describes the Marseille project as in progress.
