Shay Myanmar: Foreign Eyes on Ancient Myanmar
A Burmese-language historical archive collecting foreign travellers’ eyewitness accounts of Myanmar from the 13th to 19th centuries.
Field notes
The archive groups 12 records across Myanmar’s historical periods from 1296 to 1827, with filters for traveller origin and subjects such as ports, court politics, daily customs, rubies, and royal ceremonies. Entries expose useful research cues before opening: author, date, locations, tags, estimated reading time, and links labeled Burmese, English, original, or PDF. Visible reading estimates run from roughly four minutes for Afanasy Nikitin’s account to 29 minutes for the Marco Polo material.
