SMSWeather: a forecast for the satellite dead zone
A US weather service that answers texts with rain timing, current conditions, alerts, and outlooks when a satellite link is the only way out.
Field notes
The service accepts coordinates, ZIP codes, airport codes, or place names without requiring a command word, then returns a compact SMS forecast. Its example for Cades Cove, Tennessee leads with rain timing before giving current temperature, wind, and the overnight outlook. Separate commands request alerts, a three-day forecast, or a saved HOME location. Access is free but limited to approved US numbers, and the page explicitly warns that satellite delivery and forecasts are not guaranteed.
