Field notes
The archive is arranged as a chronological personal account rather than a conventional institutional history, moving from a formative trip to Haiti through prison visits, supply work, documentary filming, and retirement. It records a Honduran prison designed for about 500 people but reportedly holding roughly 3,500, and notes that the facility was later destroyed by Hurricane Mitch. A separate Ecuador trip became a film made by Sawicki’s son for a high school film festival.
