Maali, the gardener in the valve box
An offline irrigation controller that waters according to soil thirst, weather, and bed-level conditions rather than a fixed timer.
Field notes
The controller treats each bed as a water reservoir, comparing soil capacity, rainfall, and accumulated deficit before opening a valve. Its example replays Sacramento weather from 5–25 July 2024: eight runs over 356 minutes, with watering set to half the stated 1.20-inch soil capacity. The project says its interface is served by the box itself and explains skipped or scheduled runs, while installation documentation remains marked as forthcoming.
