Lantern delegates local model execution to Ollama rather than presenting a cloud-only chat service. Its setup guide recommends llama3.2 for most computers, gives alternate commands for smaller or more capable machines, and notes that models commonly occupy 1–5GB. The app reportedly stores conversations in projects and lets users change models without restarting. The homepage also distinguishes its core offline chat from an optional voice feature that must be enabled separately.
