The atlas compares each neighborhood’s recent nighttime brightness with its darkest wartime point, producing a nationwide percentile-based Recovery Index from 0 to 100. Users can select up to five neighborhoods for trend comparisons and inspect population estimates, projections, and OpenStreetMap service counts alongside the light data. The methodology separates the older DMSP-OLS sensor period from VIIRS coverage, and the page cautions that Syria’s limited grid supply makes generators and solar access part of the signal.
