mac-rec Gives Screen Recording a Control Plane
An open-source macOS recorder lets humans and software agents control the same capture through hotkeys, a CLI, and a localhost REST API.
Field notes
The recorder keeps control surfaces aligned: hotkeys, command-line verbs, and localhost requests operate one daemon and one session. Capture can target a display, window, or dragged region, with system audio and microphone stored separately for later mixing or replacement. The page also documents five caption burn-in styles, SRT/VTT/TXT sidecars, and a Claude Code skill that can ask the agent to record, inspect state, rewind mistakes, and return a captioned MP4.
