The archive organizes the novel’s invented civilisation through theology, ritual, institutional history, geography and character records rather than presenting only a promotional book page. Its central institutions divide authority between Rose Mothers, who oversee worship and public care, and the Ash Order, whose investigators examine clergy and institutional conduct. The setting spans the Compact, Persia, Khorasan and Sogdiana, while Farah Kianzad’s investigation supplies the narrative entry point.
