Brutal Unix: small tools, plain source, strong opinions
A collection of single-purpose Unix tools built from source with standard system utilities and aimed at POSIX.1 compatibility.
Field notes
The suite applies a source-first Unix model to several pieces of development plumbing. Brat provides TAP-compatible parallel testing, while brut-pack converts a multi-file program into one plain-text script for distribution; Brut organizes commands through a standard directory layout, and Dyad manages two side-by-side commands with optional piping and exit-status control. The project identifies POSIX.1 compatibility, minimal dependencies, and auditability as core constraints.
