ChessVision Engine Reads Chessboards Without Trusting a Single Selector
A Chromium extension architecture that reconstructs browser-rendered chess positions and analyses them locally with Stockfish 18.
Field notes
The project uses a staged recognition pipeline that begins with authoritative FEN or state attributes and falls back through DOM conventions, semantic metadata, move-list replay, geometry, and pixel matching. Its validation layer reports square coverage, side to move, legality, and a compliance state before local Stockfish 18 receives a position. The page says the extension runs only in an explicitly activated Chromium tab rather than using an all-URLs content script, and presents the codebase for acquisition.
