Ecosilo: the compost pit that disappears underground
A Peru-based installation service for cylindrical, underground household composting pits sealed with a reusable metal lid.
Field notes
Ecosilo places household organic waste in a 0.5-metre-wide underground pit and seals it with the reusable Tapa Azul, leaving only the lid visible at ground level. The page describes aerobic decomposition in contact with surrounding soil and gives a three-to-six-month timeframe after the pit fills. It presents both a traditional harvest method and an in-place method for planting trees or fruit plants, with a new pit opened nearby when the lid is moved.
