HowMuchWeOwe: a live receipt for the national debt
An interactive civic-data project tracks the U.S. national debt, its interest costs, and the congressional votes assigned to it.
Field notes
The project presents debt growth as a sequence of receipts rather than a single headline number, pairing Treasury totals with spending, revenue, borrowing, and interest. Its member board covers all 538 House and Senate seats and assigns each enacted bill's CBO ten-year deficit estimate to yes and no votes in opposite directions. The visible method also counts tax cuts as deficit effects, while links lead to named legislation, congressional records, Treasury data, and full methodology.
