The Fit-Calc for FDM Parts
A machining-minded calculator that turns a nominal diameter, fit type, printer process, and material into CAD dimensions for 3D-printed joints.
Field notes
The workflow separates the nominal feature from the part that is actually purchased or printed, then accounts for whether one or both mating members are subject to FDM error. Its calibration block uses a deliberately uncorrected 20.00 mm hole and peg, measured with different instruments, and feeds those observations back into machine-specific constants. The page also warns that caliper knife edges can under-read printed bores, making measurement method part of the setup rather than an afterthought.
