xper Gives Research Experiments a Family Tree
A dependency-free Bash CLI that uses Git branches and version numbers to preserve the ancestry of research experiments.
Field notes
xper models each research iteration as a Git branch whose version number records its parentage, allowing users to return to an earlier working point without inventing branch names. Its shared “supervisional” mode adds a filesystem write key: collaborators can inspect a branch, but only the key holder can modify the working tree. The page also describes ranking experiment branches from plain key:value log files and provides Git-based installation commands for the dependency-free Bash CLI.
