Kanalintukartta, a Habitat Map for Finnish Forest Birds
A Finnish mapping tool scores habitat for capercaillie, black grouse, hazel grouse, and willow grouse across public and private forest areas.
Field notes
Kanalintukartta turns forestry, wetland, waterway, and terrain data into species-specific habitat scores for four Finnish forest birds. Its map divides a selected view into a 36-by-36 grid and favors connected stretches of suitable habitat over isolated high-scoring cells. Results can be exported as GPX or KML for tools including Tracker, Garmin, and Oma riista. The site states that its paid version adds offline maps, saved scoring, and phone-location display for field use.
