Sonocles: speech as a live word stream
An open-source Mac app that streams microphone speech word by word over WebSocket or server-sent events.
Field notes
The application separates speech recognition from the recording workload by placing listening on the Mac’s Neural Engine, a design choice motivated by dropped audio samples during teleprompter recording. Its published comparison measures arrival gaps and reports 320 or 206 milliseconds behind live for two Parakeet configurations, versus 3747 milliseconds for Apple SpeechAnalyzer. The project is distributed through a Mac download, GitHub, and a Homebrew cask, with Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later listed as requirements.
