South Berkeley Pool
A neighbour’s investigation into the public pool that South Berkeley lost in 2010, and how residents swim now.
Field notes
The project treats pool access as a measurable local-infrastructure question rather than beginning with a proposal. It compares a half-mile straight-line radius around Berkeley’s three middle schools, notes that Willard is 1.8 miles from the nearest public pool, and cites population figures from the city’s November 2009 pools master plan. A two-minute survey gathers present-day travel experiences, while a final prompt preserves memories from people who learned, taught, or brought children to Willard.
