A macOS app that scans deleted, formatted, or damaged SD cards, USB sticks, and external drives for recoverable files.

Landing page captured for the 2026-09-06 issue.

Field notes

Retriever separates discovery from payment: the user can inspect folders, thumbnails, previews, filters, and file status before deciding whether recovery is worth 29 USD. Its safety model copies a drive bit for bit and analyzes the copy, while the source remains read-only; the page says unreadable sectors become visible gaps rather than stopping the run. The example interface includes a 63.86 GB SD card with 126 files found and distinguishes deleted material from data that has been overwritten.
