Layforge: an AI-run tabletop you host yourself

layforge.org Observed source
Editorial interest 83/100 Selection signal · not a rating of the site

Layforge is a self-hosted tabletop RPG platform where an AI narrates and referees sessions while a server-side rules engine handles the dice, checks, spells, and turn order.

Landing page captured for the 2026-09-07 issue.

Field notes

Layforge separates narration from adjudication: an LLM handles the scene while the opencombatengine performs dice, checks, spellcasting, and turn-order calculations on the server. Each host runs an independent Master rather than depending on a central service, and campaign listings expire when the host stops checking in. The project currently offers no prebuilt downloads; the page directs users to build from source with Go 1.24 or newer.
