Nephele, a Weather Twin for LEO Radio Links

nepheleai.com Observed source
Editorial interest 78/100 Selection signal · not a rating of the site

An interactive research prototype models how weather and atmospheric layers affect ground-to-orbit radio signals.

Landing page captured for the 2026-09-07 issue.

Field notes

The prototype builds a receiver-to-orbit path from atmospheric layers rather than treating weather as a single surface value. Its reference setup uses a 12.200 GHz link from a La Jolla browser receiver, with heights ranging from 1 km to 300 km and named ITU-R models for gas loss, delay, and liquid-cloud attenuation. At extraction time, the orbital and pressure-level feeds had not produced usable segments, so the displayed RF quantities remained unavailable.
