The app places a translation layer over fanfiction reading: readers can browse AO3 by fandom, pairing, or tag, select words or phrases, and retain each term with its original sentence and story context. Review happens through flashcards and a four-answer context game rather than an isolated vocabulary list. The project reports more than 4.3 million fic openings and 531,438 words learned across 164 countries, while noting that the figures count only readers with analytics enabled.
