Kokeshi Atlas, a Source-Led Guide to Japan’s Wooden Folk Art
An independent English-language field guide covering kokeshi traditions, makers, places, travel, collecting, and preservation.
Field notes
The guide currently indexes 11 Tōhoku regional groups and reports 23 cited source records, 16 source-linked places, and five checked maker records. Its editorial method separates what an object shows from what a label claims, and it keeps historic classification differences visible. The map is presented as bounded research rather than a complete authority. A separate 3D Lab includes an original AI-assisted form study, explicitly labeled as not being a reference object.
