Awa Yakkodako: Tokushima’s Sleeve-Cut Kite Workshop

The workshop describes a regional kite form called袖切り奴, or “sleeve-cut servant,” whose shortened paper sleeves help it fly in the strong winds of Tokushima and Kagawa. Its materials include madake bamboo from the Yoshino River area, Japanese paper, and three traditional printing techniques. The catalog also extends beyond display pieces to five- and seven-kite linked sets, letter kites, company-branded orders, and assembly kits intended for schools and kindergartens.
