Helgeland Seaweed Society Puts Arctic Kelp in Four Tins
A Norwegian seaweed producer sells ready-to-eat kelp pesto, hummus, and curry products grown on ropes off Rødøy at the Arctic Circle.
Field notes
The producer grows winged kelp, Alaria esculenta, on ropes in open water near Bukkøya off Rødøy rather than harvesting from the seabed. It describes hand harvest, cooking and canning in Lofoten, and traceability back to the growing line. The catalog contains four tins at 99 Norwegian kroner each, with eight servings per tin; three are vegan, while Red Curry Kelp contains fish sauce. Datasheets and wholesale sample requests are also linked.
