Field notes
The playground measures each country from boundary data and compares its spherical area with the space it occupies under Mercator. Its ranked distortion view covers 176 countries, representing about 134 million km² of land, and supports selecting as many as five countries at once. The sources section identifies Natural Earth boundaries, d3-geo, and the 2018 Equal Earth projection; it also explains why Antarctica has no distortion figure.
