flychess.fun Observed source

An interactive experiment lets two simulated fruit-fly neural circuits choose legal chess moves on a shared board.

Landing page captured for the 2026-09-13 issue.

Field notes

FlyChess maps board states and candidate moves to artificial input currents, then runs a simplified leaky integrate-and-fire circuit before decoding one legal move. The displayed circuit contains 268 highlighted neurons and 1,429 selected connections, set against 139,255 anatomical neuron positions for context. A shared server-controlled match updates roughly once per second, with chess.js enforcing legality and an Export PGN control preserving the moves.
