Old Seaman, a Synthetic Chesapeake Watch

oldseaman.app Observed source
Editorial interest 78/100 Selection signal · not a rating of the site

A marine-planning prototype that puts weather, chart depth, tide, and route timing on one shared axis.

Landing page captured for the 2026-09-13 issue.

Field notes

The prototype models a boat’s passage as a sequence of time-specific checks rather than treating a route as static: depth, draft, tide, wind-driven water level, and safety margin are compared at the selected hour. Its visible scenarios use ECMWF-like, GFS-like, and HRRR-like labels, but the page states that no corresponding model data is used. The Patapsco approach example also exposes wind bands from under 12 kt to 28+ kt and marks synthetic results as DEMO GO, CAUTION, or NO-GO.
