Owntools: a desktop toolkit that keeps the cloud out
A planned Windows-and-Mac app for dictation, transcription, recording, notes, translation, focus work, and other small jobs performed on your own machine.
Field notes
The toolkit is organized around local desktop processing rather than a browser workflow. Dictation uses a global shortcut to insert cleaned speech into the active text field, while the recording tool pairs cursor-following zoom, silence removal, captions, and transcript edits that affect the video timeline. The page also specifies offline MP4 rendering at 60 fps and names Whisper or Parakeet as local CPU engines. Windows support is marked as launching soon.
